With the many transport options for travellers these days, it can be tricky deciding which form to use. With options such as airlines, rail companies, cruise ships, and tour operators to choose from, the possibilities seem endless.

There is however one method of transport that stands out well above the rest, simply because of the freedom and independence that you can’t get with any other form of travel. This is of course a self drive holiday, with your own rental car, lease or campervan.

The benefits of a self drive holiday really cannot be compared to those of other forms of transport. The freedom and practicality offered really is unlike any other way of travelling. Unlike travel options where a pilot, tour guide, bus driver, or captain is in control, sticking to a schedule and focusing on the task of going from A to B, a driving holiday has the big difference of the person in charge being YOU. You decide the pace of your holiday, where to go and how long to spend there, etc.

If your destination is far away or perhaps across a sea or ocean and not driveable, then indeed a flight may be the best way for you to get there. In that case though, it is once you arrive that your rental car will give you ultimate freedom. Picture arriving at the airport and collecting your luggage, then driving off in your rental car. No need to worry about finding the shuttle bus company, hailing an expensive cab, or searching for a person holding a small sign with your name on it. Simply collect your rental and be on your way.

Regardless of where you are headed on your holidays, having your own transportation will make the world of difference. Picture driving through the European Alps, or maybe cruising along Route 66 in the USA. Perhaps head to a game park in South Africa, where you can drive your own car through areas home to amazing wild animals.

By choosing to go on a self drive holiday, you will have the freedom to spend as long or as little as you like in each place or attraction, have the power to decide where to go next, and not to mention having the choice of who you travel with, rather than end up on a packed bus full of strangers.
