Drive a Car Hire in Colorado Springs
Many of the main attractions in Colorado Springs are located just to the west of the city, where the mountains begin. Jump in your car hire and head into the mountains, for some unique sightseeing unlike anywhere else in the world.
A great place to head to for your first stop is Pikes Peak, one of the tallest mountains in the area, which reaches a height of over 14,000 feet. You can drive your hire car virtually all the way to the summit, from where you will get a spectacular view of the surrounding area, as well as the nearby city below. Not far from here you can take a look into how the area once looked, by visiting the Ghost Town Museum. Established in the 1950s, the museum is a recreated gold mining town of the 1800s. Created with preserved buildings and machines from the gold rush, the museum offers visitors a truly authentic experience.
For another interesting look into the areas past, you can visit another great historical attraction, the Manitou Cliff Dwellings. Rebuilt using the materials from a similar abandoned village nearby the dwellings shows how local American Indians built their homes on the edge of cliffs over 700 years ago and definitely worth a visit.
To see another impressive man made structure, head south in your rental car to the Royal Gorge Bridge, which is about an hour away. Built in the 1920s as a tourist attraction more than for transport, the bridge has to this day managed to retain the title of tallest suspension bridge in the world, with the river 321m below, just one of the many great attractions the area has to offer.
