Drive a Car Hire in El Paso
An excellent outing to begin your visit to El Paso with is driving your car hire along Trans Mountain Road, which you will find to the north of the city centre. The road passes through the famous Franklin Mountains, which tower thousands of feet above the desert below. There are many lookouts you will have the chance to stop at along this road, from where you will get spectacular views of El Paso, as well as across the border to Juarez in Mexico.
At the eastern end of Trans Mountain Road, you can visit a grand installation indeed, the huge military compound, Fort Bliss. One of the largest army bases in the US, Fort Bliss not only functions as a defense base, but also contains a number of museums and displays for the public to enjoy. Highly recommended is the Fort Bliss Museum, which has displays on the history of the army in the area since the mid 1800s, and also the US Army Air Defense Museum, which shows how air defense systems have changed and evolved over the years.
A short distance to the west of the city centre, you can visit another great attraction for visitors, the Centennial Museum and Chihuahuan Desert Gardens. Within the museum you will find exhibits on the history of the area, dating back hundreds of years, and in the outdoors section you will be able to view their collection of rare desert plants, including unique cacti only found in the area.
For those travelling with children, there is one place definitely worth a visit, and that is El Paso Zoo. Located on the edge of the city centre, just a few streets from the border, the zoo is home to many rare species of animals, and has sections dedicated to the Americas, Asia and Africa. Simply drive your car hire down to the zoo and spend a day getting to know the wildlife which include both local creatures, as well as animals from across the world, guaranteed to make it a great day out for young and old alike.
