Drive a Rental Car in Galway

The perfect place for beginning your trip, is located in the centre of the city, and known as Kirwan’s Lane. Park your rental car near the centre, and set off exploring the lane, which has been beautifully restored to match how it was in medieval times, featuring great examples of architecture from the 16th and 17th centuries. It’s easy to picture oneself living here many centuries ago, in this quiet seaside community.

Drive your hire car a short distance north of Galway, where you will find Lough Corrib, the 2nd largest lake in Ireland. Popular for fishing, and also boating, there are hundreds of islands waiting to be explored. Be sure to also check out Aughnanure Castle, built in the 16th century, located on the shores of the lake.

For a truly unique day trip head to Rossaveal, just west of Galway, where you can board a ferry to the Aran Islands, just a short distance from the coast. Three small islands make up the group, and have a history and culture all of their own. Here you will come across historic cottages, stone forts, small churches and shipwrecks.

West of Galway you will find an area famous throughout Ireland for being breathtakingly beautiful. Connemara National Park covering 2000 hectares, is viewed by many as one of the most picturesque parts of Ireland. Mountains, lakes, rivers and grasslands make up the area, and along your way you will come across numerous small towns and villages, each one as welcoming as the next, definitely a wonderful part of the world to tour with a hire car!
