A city built on water, with scenic canals running between grand architecture it is easy to see why Venice is such a popular destination for travellers. Historical buildings feature throughout the city, as do many museums and churches, giving visitors a long list of attractions to choose from.
Be sure to spend some time in Saint Mark’s Square, located in the heart of the city, and home to several historic buildings. The clock tower just to the side of the square offers spectacular panoramic views of the city, and Saint Mark’s Basilica is an outstanding example of Byzantine architecture.
Blessed with many world class museums, it’s easy to run out of time while visiting Venice. Highly recommended museums not to be missed are The Peggy Guggeheim Museum, which houses a great collection of modern art, and the glass museum which is located on the island of Murano, famous for glass production.
