The most famous of all attractions in the area is without a doubt the Knock Shrine, the site where in 1879 the Virgin Mary, St Joseph and St John are said to have appeared to locals. Jump in your hire car and head southwest of here, where you can visit Achill Island, the largest in all of Ireland.
