Driving Licence
A full valid driver’s license is required for a minimum of 1 year. An International licence is required for Australian drivers licence holders.
Age Restrictions

Rules and Regulations
General driving rules and regulations in Sweden;
- Vehicles drive on the right hand side of the road.
- Pass cars in the left hand side of the road.
- Using a mobile phone while driving is prohibited, with the exception of a hands free system.
- Seat belts are mandatory and must be worn by all passengers and driver.
- Dipped headlights are to be used at all times.
- Drivers are to carry at all times while driving, a valid drivers licence, registration documents and insurance documents.
Equipment
Its is highly recommended for motorists to carry in their vehicles a warning triangle, reflective vest, first-aid kit and a fire extinguisher in case of a breakdown, accident, incident or emergency.
Child Safety Seats
Children under 7 years old are required to be seated in a appropriate child seat.
Speed Limits
Be aware of your driving speed, heavy fines apply to motorists driving faster than the posted limit. Below are the speed limits in Sweden, unless signed otherwise;
- Urban Areas (built up areas): 30-50km/h
- Rural Roads (outside towns): 70km/h
- Motorways: 90-110km/h
Drink Driving
The legal blood alcohol content (BAC) in Sweden is 0.02mg/100ml.
Tolls
No motorway tolls exist in Sweden.
Road Signs
Road signs in Poland follow the same order like other countries in Europe. Signs will commonly be displayed in the countries local language with English shown below, however for easy understanding symbols are used mostly. You may notice majority of signs will have a yellow/orange background, this helps with visibility during the winter seasons as white signs make it more difficult to see with snow. Warning signs uses a yellow background with black text/symbol in the middle and red border instead of black on white. Prohibitory Signs are generally found in a circle shape either black on white/yellow or white on blue with a red border. Mandatory signs will have a blue background with white text or symbol. Information Signs come in a blue or green background with white text or/and a symbol.
Parking
Parking in Stockholm is strictly regulated and quite expensive, so make sure to check signage before leaving your vehicle. Most cities will operate using the pay-n-display system, tickets need to be bought from nearby machines and be placed on your front windscreen.
Visa Information
Visa, passport and entry requirements for Australians visiting Sweden;
- Australians holding a Australian passport do not require a tourist visa for stays up to 90 days. Contact the Swedish Consulate or Embassy in your local state for additional information regarding working permits or other special visa's.
- A valid passport is required.
