Peugeot Leasing vs Car Hire
If you have decided to head over to Europe for a self drive holiday, the question remains, to rent or to lease your transport. Here are a few differences between the two that may help in deciding.
Essentially, car rental (also called car hire) and car leasing are very similar things. The main difference being, that car leasing has been set up to cater for those who wish to have a car for a longer period, with great rates and inclusions as a bonus.
Leasing always includes:
- A BRAND NEW tax free left hand drive Peugeot.
- Full Vehicle Insurance cover with NIL EXCESS.
- Full factory warranty, with 24 hour Roadside Assistance. (conditions apply).
- Personal Accident Insurance (PAI).
- Unlimited Kilometres.
- FREE Additional drivers (conditions/restrictions apply).
- Minimum driver’s age of just 18 and no maximum age.
Unlike car rental, car model and accessories can be confirmed with a lease prior to collection, whereas most rental suppliers have a request-only policy, where only car category and transmission can be confirmed in advance. Leased cars can also be driven into a great number of countries, including most of Eastern Europe etc, where many hire cars are restricted from going.
The duration of a lease can be from 30 days, up to 175 days, and there are 24 depots in France with 13 outside of France for collection and return (collection and/or return outside of France does incur a fee).
There are of course some advantages that renting has over leasing, making it a great option in many situations. Firstly the duration of a rental does not have to be a minimum of 30 days, and while some suppliers have a minimum of three days, plenty will allow a rental for as little as one. The booking deadline prior to pick up for leases is usually 35 days, where as rental can be confirmed a few days before pick up, often even just a day before.
Rentals are also free of a few restrictions that apply to leases, one of these being that the driver cannot be in Europe for work purposes. Leases are exclusively for holiday renters, ie; the driver cannot be on a working trip, and the driver must also not be staying in the EU for longer than 185 days in a 12 month period. Rental suppliers however do not have such rules, making ideal for business trips.
