Dallas is large city sprawling over 900 km2, with over 1.3 million people. Dallas may be known for cowboys and rodeos; however these days Dallas is Texas’ business and commercial hub, its metropolitan economy ranking 5th in the country. There are 4 distinct seasons, with summer being the longest. Autumn and spring are reasonably pleasant, with some thunderstorms. Winters are cool, with snow about 2 days a year and summer is hot and dry with occasional heat waves. The best time of year to travel depends on personal preference, although spring brings interesting weather and vibrant wildflowers.

The Baker Hotel is an abandoned historical landmark in Mineral Wells, located 1 and a half hour drive west of Dallas. The hotel was built in 1929 to serve the wealthy a luxury hotel experience with an inbuilt spa treatment centre and pool. People claimed that Mineral Wells had healing water and many travelled here to experience it. The hotel closed in 1972 and many claim it is haunted. This is for the history buffs and ghost hunters. Day trip recommended.

Marble Falls is a scenic small town that sits near a lake and is around 3 hours’ drive south of Dallas. There are lots to see and do here; however, the food is the star attraction. Make sure you visit the Blue Bonnet Café for the best slice of pie around. Yee-haw!

San Antonio is a 4-hour drive south of Dallas and worth every bit of gas to get there. San Antonio is a historic city with deep roots to Mexico and to a Spanish colonial past. Visit the Alamo Quarry Market, the Majestic Theatre, the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park and the Riverwalk.
