Licence Requirements

A full valid driver's licence is required for a minimum of 1 year. An International Drivers Licence is required for Australian drivers licence holders.


Age Restrictions

Generally the minimum age is 21 years, but can vary between the car hire company and location. Maximum age limits apply in some locations, a young/senior driver surcharge may apply. Please check terms & conditions when making an enquiry or booking.


Rules, Laws and Regulations

General driving rules, laws and regulations in Spain;

  • Vehicles drive on the right-hand side of the road.
  • Over take on the left-hand side of the road.
  • Dipped headlights must be used throughout the day.
  • The use of mobile phones is prohibited, with the exception of a hand-free system.
  • Seat belts are compulsory by all passengers and driver.
  • A valid licence must be held while driving.

Child Safety Seats

Children under the age of 3 are required be seated in the back seat of the vehicle in an appropriate restraint. Children over 3 years of age are also required to be seated in either a booster seat or child restraint.


Speed Limits

Radar traps and police patrol the roads and motorways for speeding motorists, drivers who are caught speeding face heavy fines and possible imprisonment. Below are the speed limits in Denmark, unless posted otherwise.

  • Urban Roads (built-up areas): 50km/h
  • Rural Roads (outside towns): 80km/h
  • Motorways: 90-130km/h

Drink Driving

As well as speeding, drink driving is also taken seriously in Denmark. The legal blood alcohol content (BAC) in Denmark is 0.05mg/100ml, police randomly carry out alcohol test on drivers if caught heavy fines apply up to imprisonment.


Tolls

There are no motorway tolls in Denmark, other than a bridge toll on the Oresund and Storebaelt bridges.


Road Signs

Road Signs in Copenhagen, Denmark adopts the standardization of the Vienna Convention on Road Signs and Signals which many European countries now utilize, but with slight variance. Signs in Copenhagen, Denmark are commonly found in the countries local language however English is also used on city roads and state highways. The signs are very easy to understand as the vast majority of them are posted with symbols.

  • Prohibitory Signs are signs which motorists must follow. These signs vary in shapes from a circle, octagon and a box. You will find these signs in either blue with a white symbol in the middle and white with a red border.
  • Warning Signs are generally triangular in shape with a red border, white background or yellow and a symbol in the middle.
  • Information Signs are indicated with a blue or green background and white text providing motorists with information.

Parking

A parking disk is necessary to be able to park within the cities of Denmark. Parking disks can be obtained from petrol stations and post offices and must be displayed on your front windscreen. Parking is timed and varies depending on the signage and is strictly controlled by patrols. Anyone parking over the time limit may end up finding their vehicles towed along with a fine.


Visa Information

Visa, Passport and entry requirements for Australians visiting Denmark;

  • Australian passport holders do not require a visa for stays up to 90 days. Contact the Denmark Consulate or Embassy in your local state for special visa's or stays longer than 90 days.
  • A valid passport with at-least 6 months validity is required.
  • A return/onward travel ticket/itinerary is required.
