Driving Licence

A full valid driver's licence is required for a minimum of 2 years. An International Drivers Licence is required for Australian drivers licence holders.


Age Restrictions

Generally the minimum age is 21 years, but can vary between the car hire company and location. Maximum age limits apply in some locations, a young/senior driver surcharge may apply. Please check terms & conditions when making an enquiry or booking.


Rules, Laws and Regulations

General driving rules and regulations in Slovenia:

  • Vehicles drive on the right hand side of the road.
  • Pass cars on the left hand side of the road.
  • Drive defensively
  • Seat belts are to be used by all passengers and driver.
  • Drivers are to carry at all times while driving, a valid drivers licence, registration documents and insurance documents.

Child Safety Seats

Passengers under the age of 12 years old must only be seated in the back seats of the vehicle, if suitable a proper child seat should be used as well.


Speed Limits

Below are the speed limits in Turkey, unless signed otherwise.

  • Urban Areas (built up areas): 50km/h
  • Rural Roads (outside towns: 100km/h
  • Motorways: 120km/h

Drink Driving

The legal blood alcohol content (BAC) in Turkey is 0.05mg/100ml. Do not drink and drive, alcohol can have a serious affect on your judgement and your ability to drive. Alcohol tests are randomly carried by authorities, any driver found to be over the limit face being arrested.


Tolls

Tolls are payable on some Motorways and bridges. At some toll gates payments can be made in cash, all others accept either prepaid toll debit cards which is available from banks or OGS "Automatic Passage System", a electronic transponder attached to the vehicle front window, also available from banks.


Road Signs

Road signs in Turkey are very similar to those used throughout Europe, although some can be found with unique differences such as colour, shapes, typeface or arrows. Most signs are commonly in the countries local language, however English is also used on most major road signs. The good thing is that most signs in Turkey use symbols making it easier to understand and read.

  • Prohibitory Signs are signs which motorists must follow. These signs vary in shapes from a circle, octagon and a box. You will find these signs in either blue with a white symbol in the middle and white with a red border.
  • Warning Signs are generally triangular in shape with a red border, white background or and a black symbol or text in the middle.
  • Information Signs provide motorists with information which are found in either a blue or green background with white text.

Parking

On-street parking in large cities are to be paid for by nearby parking officials. No metered parking exist in Turkey.


Visa Information

Visa, passport and entry requirements for Australians visiting Slovenia:

  • Australian passport holders require a visa which is issued at the point of entry for a fee. Period allowed is 90 days. Contact the Consulate of the Republic of Turkey in your local sate for additional information regarding visa's.
  • A valid passport is required with at-least 6 months validity.
  • A return/onward travel ticket/itinerary is required.
