Day 1: Brisbane to Toowoomba (via Warwick)

Duration: 249 kms - 3 hrs

Travel south on the Cunningham Highway to historic Warwick, soaked in early settlement history with sandstone buildings and castlelike churches. Follow the Sunflower Route to Allora, the childhood home of P.L. Travers who wrote the Mary Poppins stories. Visit the heritage listed Glengallan Homestead & Heritage Centre, a 19th century country house and Rudd’s Pub named after author Steele Rudd en route to Toowoomba.

Day 2: Toowoomba to St George

Duration: 386 kms - 4.25 hrs

Continue your drive west to the heritage listed Woolshed at Jondaryan, the oldest and largest operating Woolshed in the world. Download the self-guided tour app for an interactive walk through restored colonial buildings and the original Woolshed building. Follow the Adventure Way drive route through Dalby to St George, the inland fishing capital of Queensland.

Day 3: St George to Cunnamulla

Duration: 294 kms - 3.5 hrs

Discover hand-carved illuminated emu eggs at The Unique Egg, ‘unique’ to St George. This world-class collection has been handcrafted over a period of more than 40 years. Continue on the Adventure Way to Cunnamulla for a visit to the Cunnamulla Centre and a side trip to Eulo for an open-air mud bath accompanied by wine and nibbles.

Day 4: Cunnamulla to Charleville

Duration: 198 kms - 2 hrs

Follow the Mitchell Highway to Charleville, the heart of the ‘mulga country’ and immortalised in Slim Dusty’s song by the same name. Get up close and personal with the Bilby, one of Australia’s most endangered species at the Bilby Experience. Join experienced night sky guides at the Cosmos Centre and Observatory to view distant stars, planets and star clusters through powerful telescopes.

Day 5: Charleville to Roma

Duration: 266 kms - 3 hrs

Travel to Mitchell for a therapeutic soak in The Great Artesian Spa. Visit the original courthouse where local bushrangers the Kenniff Brothers were committed to stand trial. Drive east on the Warrego Highway to Roma where twice weekly you can join a free tour of the Roma Sale yards, the largest cattle selling facility in the southern hemisphere. Enjoy an amazing theatrical presentation, recreating the story of Australia’s Oil and Gas Industry at the Big Rig Night Show.

Day 6 & 7: Roma to Bunya Mountains

Duration: 330 kms - 4 hrs

Continue along the Warrego Highway towards Dalby then drive through the rich black soil grain growing area of the Jimbour Plains to the heritage listed Jimbour House. Stroll through the beautiful formal gardens of this French classic sandstone homestead built in 1875. Discover quaint arts and craft shops nestled in the foothills of the Bunya Mountains in the picturesque town of Bell then take the Kingaroy Road to Bunya Mountains National Park where its pristine rainforest and ancient bunya pines await.

Discover cool mountains, rainforests and waterfalls on a selection of spectacular walking tracks within the Bunya Mountains National Park. Enjoy the privacy of your Bunya Mountain Chalet, hand feed King Parrots and Crimson Rosellas, tour the rainforest in a Clydesdale drawn wagon and enjoy the simple pleasure of billy tea and damper. Watch for the Chocolate Wattled Bat at dusk and try your luck at spotting nocturnal animals.

Day 8: Bunya Mountains to Brisbane

Duration: 221 kms - 3 hrs

Travel down the Bunya Highway to Kingaroy and Taste South Burnett, a one-stop shop for locally produced wine, cheese and fudge. Visit the Kingaroy Observatory to view the actual surface of the Sun by day and the starry constellations by night. Indulge with a gourmet platter at Crane Wines, a rustic cellar door perched high on the Booie Range with breathtaking views east over the valley. Your final leg of the drive will travel through the timber town of Blackbutt and the country township of Woodford back to Brisbane.
