This scenic byway takes you from the Sonora Desert, through to the snow-capped peaks of San Bernardino National Forest. From clusters of desert palms to conifer forests and alpine mountains, you’ll be experiencing a vast variety of environments along the way. San Jacinto and Santa Rosa Mountains provide an alternative to desert palms and instead offer crisp forest lakes and rocky mountain peaks. Nearby, San Jacinto Wilderness offers a sweet treat – fabulous sweeping views from north to south and east to east of the mountains and nearby canyon.

Reasons to Pull Over – Get your learning hat on and absorb knowledge of early Native American culture at Cahuilla Tewanet Overlook. You could also fish for trout in Lake Hemet and then grab a bite in the picturesque mountain village of Idyllwild.
