Rivers Run

Tourism Tasmania Logo

This road trip was provided by Discover Tasmania.

The Rivers Run is a scenic journey through a range of landscapes, from tranquil rivers, rolling hills and sweeping valleys all centered on the lifeblood of the region, the Derwent River.

Hobart to Lake St Clair

Hobart – New Norfolk

Departing Hobart the road to New Norfolk follows the Derwent River. Situated on the banks of the Derwent River with its historic buildings and the centre of Arthur Square, a self-guided walking tour is the perfect way to explore this picturesque town. Breathtaking panoramic views over the town beckon when climbing Pulpit Rock.

Hamilton – Bothwell

Heading north through the historic township of Hamilton, the streetscape contains many Georgian buildings still intact today in use as accommodation, galleries and restaurants. The luxurious Prospect House, with its mix of English and Italian styles are a must see at this 170 year old property. More history can be found at the historically classified town of Bothwell. Built by convicts in 1820 it is today classified by the National Trust.

Lake St Clair – Hobart

Travelling the highlands loop trail up through the Central Highlands, Lake St Clair is Australia’s deepest natural freshwater lake. Stretching more than 17km and part of the greater Cradle Mountain National Park area the breathtaking region offers stunning walks, cruises and pristine waters. You can head west towards Strahan or Queenstown or continue on back to Hobart to finish this spectacular run.
