About a half hour drive from the city lies Pompeii which is complete with the remains of ancient temples, baths, mosaics and columns. A little closer to Naples are the ruins of Herculaneum, another town destroyed by the massive volcanic eruption thousands of years ago. Smaller and wealthier than Pompeii, the remains at Herculaneum are still being excavated and many treasures of the past are constantly being discovered.
