Discover Car Hire at LAX

Los Angeles Airport (or LAX as its more commonly referred to) is California’s largest airport with millions of passengers passing through its gates every year. The airport is located on California’s south coast, an easy 30-minute drive from Los Angeles. LAX connects nonstop to 101 domestic and 85 international destinations in North America, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Oceania. It is the 7th busiest airport in the world, and 3rd busiest in the United States.

Los Angeles Airport has nine terminals which are connected by a U-shaped, two-level (Arrivals/Departures) thoroughfare. An extensive array of facilities such as restaurants, bars, gift shops, newsagents, duty-free shops for international flights, restrooms and airline lounges are located within in the terminals.

DriveAway partner with reputable brands at Los Angeles Airport, such as Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Europcar, Hertz, National Car Rental and Thrifty.

We search & compare prices to bring you the best deal on car hire in LA. This gives you the flexibility to choose from a huge range of vehicles from our trusted supplier's fleets. As a general rule, we suggest upsizing to a larger vehicle in the USA as the models are generally larger, the roads are wider and it makes it more comfortable when driving long distances.

Exploring Los Angeles Airport

Car rental at Los Angeles Airport

Approximately 40 rental car companies operate out of LAX, with a dedicated car rental area located away from the main building near the economy parking lot. When you reach the Lower/Arrival Level area of the terminals you can request a complimentary shuttle pick up to take you to the rental car area. Outside of the baggage claim, on the Lower/Arrivals Level, look for the sign reading “Rental Car Shuttles” featuring a purple icon displaying a car and key. This is where you will wait for your agency’s shuttle. Alternatively, the free airport shuttle drops passengers off at 'Lot C' where the car rental offices are located.

The suppliers we partner with at Los Angeles Airport are Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Hertz and Thrifty. Pre-booking your car rental with DriveAway will save you time and money. Simply hop off your flight, present your prepaid voucher at the desk in terminal and you’ll be on the road in no time!

Do the comparison

Most people don't realise just how cost effective renting a car can be! While shuttles and airport to hotel transfers might seem like the most obvious option, the cost for these services can really add up compared to hiring your own vehicle. Most one way shared transfers from Los Angeles Airport to downtown start from $20USD per person upwards. For a family of four, that is already $80USD. Car hire is as low as $55 per day pre-paid, with the freedom to explore LA as you please!

The terminals At Los Angeles Airport

LAX has nine passenger terminals arranged in the shape of the letter U or a horseshoe. Free shuttle buses run frequently between terminals (approximately every 10 to 15 minutes) to assist travellers in getting from one terminal to another. To use this service, board the Airline Connections "A" Shuttle under the LAX Shuttle & Airline Connections blue sign on the Lower / Arrival Level islands in front of each terminal.

  • Terminal 1 - Gates 9 to 18B
  • Terminal 2 - Gates 21A to 28
  • Terminal 3 - Gates 30 to 39
  • Terminal 4 - Gates 41 to 48
  • Terminal 5 - Gates 50 to 58
  • Terminal 6 - Gates 60 to 69
  • Terminal 7/8 - Gates 70 to 88

Please Note: If you are not catching the shuttle, allow approximately 3-5 minutes to walk between each terminal.
